Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Vijitha Herath yesterday announced that the Government will review the wind power project promoted by India’s Adani Group after the upcoming Parliamentary elections.

Responding to queries at the post-Cabinet meeting media briefing, he affirmed that no policy decision would be made on such projects during the current transition period.

Herath announced that the new administration has begun looking at the pros and cons of the project, insisting that the agreement needs to be carefully assessed.

“We will not take any decision during this transition period. We learnt that there are concerns raised by the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers Union (CEBEU) as well as the Court. Therefore, after considering all these factors, we will take measures after the new Government is established,” he added.

Herath clarified that no discussions regarding specific projects, including the Adani power plant took place during the recent meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jayashankar.
