Government officials yesterday stated that they would once again strictly impose health guidelines issued by the Health Ministry, following the identification of a COVID-19 case from the community, and urged the public to follow safety guidelines.
Addressing the press yesterday, Army Commander and National Operation Centre for the Prevention of the COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) Head Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva emphasised that the public was no longer adhering to safety guidelines issued by the Health Ministry despite constant reminders on multiple channels to do so.
Echoing these views, DIG Ajith Rohana said: “We were all more relaxed regarding these safety guidelines but we are once again facing a risky situation. Thus, the Sri Lanka Police will be monitoring regulation compliance along with health officials.”
Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi added that the spread of COVID-19 in the country was controlled thus far due to the community’s support for Government-issued guidelines and regulations and that continued support was necessary.
