The case filed by the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) against the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) will resume on Tuesday 7 February, the Supreme Court agreed.
When the case was taken up on Wednesday, President’s Counsels for the CEB and CPC wanted time to obtain instructions from their clients. As the Court was keen to take up the matter due to its national importance, President’s Counsel for the CEB provided an undertaking to provide uninterrupted power until the matter is supported.
The matter was supported yesterday and is to be resumed on 7 February.
However, the President’s Counsel for the CEB withdrew and/or refused to extend the undertaking to provide uninterrupted power.
On 30 January, the HRCSL filed a case before the Supreme Court against the Power and Energy Ministry and Ceylon Electricity Board citing failure to enforce the pledge reached by all parties to provide uninterrupted supply of electricity from 26 January to 17 February till the end of the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination.
