Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Dr. Harsha De SIlva, refuted claims he called for the extension of the Domestic Debt Restructuring mechanism, stating he instead called for comparable treatment amongst all creditors. Parlimentary Committee on Public Finance Chairman clarified that any reduction in the debt haircut offered to bilateral and commercial creditors must be applicable to domestic debt as well, especially when it concerns the savings of hard earned citizens. Making a statement on X, De Silva questioned if such falsehoods were being spread to enhance premiums at the auction today. De Silva earlier explained the haircut on interest payments could come down to low as 14% based on the performance of the Sri Lankan economy.
