With their respective appointments on Friday, the late Harry Jayawardena’s son Hasitha and younger daughter Stasshani have created history by becoming the youngest Chairman and Chairperson in a Public Listed Company (PLC), according to analysts.

Hasitha, who is in his mid-30s, was appointed Chairman of business tycoon Harry’s diversified investment holding company Melstacorp PLC, as well as Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka. Stasshani, who is 40, was appointed Chairperson of diversified blue-chip Aitken Spence PLC among other entities. She is also the first Chairperson of Spence, having been the first woman and youngest Director to be appointed in 2013.

Hasitha holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (Hons) from the University of Kent in the United Kingdom.
