Hayleys Power Ltd., Mahawa Solar Ltd., and Capital City Holdings Ltd., have been awarded contracts to develop Matara and Vavunathivu grid substations respectively.
Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal by Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera to award the contract after international bids were called from registered suppliers to commission the solar photovoltaic power plants in Matara (10 MW) and Vavunathivu (8MW) grid substations. The projects will be executed on a Build, Own and Operate (BOO) basis. Based on the recommendation of the Cabinet Appointed Negotiation Committee, the Cabinet approved the proposal to award the contracts for these projects.
“As the Government continues its efforts to promote sustainable energy sources and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, these initiatives will mark significant strides in the renewable energy sector,” Cabinet Co-Spokesman and Minister Bandula Gunawardena said.
