Global giant Huawei Technologies has reaffirmed its commitment to Sri Lanka’s cybersecurity development by joining the 10th Annual Cyber Security Summit as a Platinum partner for the third consecutive year. With its extensive expertise in cybersecurity, Huawei will contribute to the summit’s mission of addressing the pressing cyber challenges facing the nation.

Cyber International Corporation Research and Analysis (CICRA) Group Director and CEO Boshan Dayaratne expressed his appreciation for Huawei’s continued involvement, stating: “We are happy to welcome Huawei for the third consecutive year at our Cyber Security Summit. They have been pillars of success for this summit over the last couple of years.

Their commitment to supporting the country in cybersecurity is invaluable.”

Huawei Sri Lanka CEO Zhang Jinze said: “We believe that cybersecurity principles are built upon integrity, trustworthiness, capability, accountability, openness, and transparency. For the third consecutive year, Huawei is pleased to be a part of the 10th Annual Cyber Security Summit 2024. We welcome closer communication and collaboration with all stakeholders to jointly confront emerging risks and challenges during this world-changing transformation.”

The 10th Annual Cyber Security Summit 2024, scheduled for 25 and 26 November 2024 at Cinnamon Grand, arrives at a pivotal moment. As Sri Lanka’s IT infrastructure expands beyond expectations, it faces increasing pressure due to the strain of digital transformation and a shortage of skilled cybersecurity professionals.

The cyber threat landscape is evolving rapidly, with hackers employing advanced techniques such as reconnaissance, probing, and exploit development. In 2023 alone, global ransomware attacks surged by 72%, with some regions witnessing increases as high as 105%. The shift to remote work further exacerbated vulnerabilities, leading to a staggering 400% rise in brute-force attacks on unsecured systems.

This year’s summit provides a crucial platform for discussing how Sri Lanka can strengthen its cybersecurity defences. As a global leader in technology and cybersecurity, Huawei will play an active role in sharing knowledge and fostering collaboration to help close the cybersecurity gap and promote best practices.

Huawei’s participation will extend across several key events, including the 4th Youth Summit on Cyber Security held on 29 October, the Capturing the Flag (CTF) Challenge for undergraduates on 16 November, the CEO Evening Forum “Why Cyber Security Should be a Board Room Discussion” on 25 November, and the full-day conference on 26 November, which will be followed by the Night Hack, where experts will provide live demonstrations of real-world cyberattacks.

Huawei’s continued participation underscores its commitment to safeguarding Sri Lanka’s digital future. Together with other key stakeholders, the summit aims to foster dialogue, empower the workforce, and enhance the nation’s defences against an ever-growing wave of cyber threats.
