International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva lauded Sri Lanka’s economic development at a crucial meeting with President Ranil Wickremesinghe on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
During the meeting, Georgieva and Wickreme-singhe delved into the ongoing financial sector reforms and the substantial progress made in debt restructuring initiatives.
The IMF Managing Director commended the Government for its successful actions in reducing inflation and fostering an environment that is favourable for business development, as well as its flourishing tourism industry.
She expressed her satisfaction with the Government commitment to enhancing the overall economic landscape.
Notable figures attending this significant meeting included Foreign Affairs Minister Ali Sabry, Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake, Sri Lankan Ambassador in the US Mahinda Samarasinghe, UN Permanent Representative Mohan Peiris, and President’s Advisor Dinesh Weerakkody, alongside senior officials representing both Sri Lanka and the IMF.
