The International Monetary Fund (IMF) denied it had recommended the postponement of local elections in Sri Lanka. 

“The IMF does not intervene in any country’s electoral governance process. In the case of Sri Lanka, polls are a matter for the Government and people. IMF never recommended postponing local elections,” IMF Mission Chief for Sri Lanka Masahiro Nozaki told journalists in an online briefing out of Washington DC.
