A delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Senior Mission Chief for Sri Lanka Peter Breuer, arrived in Colombo yesterday.
The primary objective of the visit from 17-23 November is to initiate discussions on the third review of the IMF program and necessary steps towards the release of the fourth tranche of the $ 2.9 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF).
The IMF team is expected to hold discussions with key Government officials and stakeholders to evaluate the country’s economic performance and outline the next steps in the reform agenda.
The visit also comes at a critical time as Sri Lanka has gained much needed political stability following last week’s Parliamentary Elections, while President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is expected to present the Government’s policy statement on Thursday (21) during the 10th Parliament’s inaugural session.
