The Inland Revenue Department will soon allow e-payments, boosting convenience for taxpayers.
Commissioner General Nadun Guruge said this facility will be launched within the next three months whereby the public can pay taxes via credit cards.
At present the IRD offers e-Services for registration, filing of returns, checking tax balance and transaction history, etc.
It was pointed out that with the removal and simplification of taxes by the new Government of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the ease of doing business is likely to improve.
“There will be a reduction in compliance cost as well as saving of time,” he added.
IRD officials said with increase of turnover threshold for VAT, removal of ESC and NBT, many will not be required to file quarterly or annual returns and payments.
