Inter-provincial travel restrictions will be lifted at 4 a.m. tomorrow, the Government yesterday announced.

The decision was made when the Special Committee on COVID-19 Control met yesterday. According to the President’s Media Division (PMD), the committee also decided to look into the possibility of making the possession of a vaccination card mandatory when entering public places, including shops and restaurants.

“Health officials stated that there are legal provisions under the COVID-19 related law to enforce it against those who decline to get the vaccine and health officials further said that they have sought the Attorney General’s advice in this regard,” a statement issued by the PMD reads.

The PMD added that health recommendations have been issued for the commencement of Ordinary Level and Advanced Level classes in all schools as well.

“The President pointed out that the principals should be made aware of this decision and the process of starting schools should be implemented expeditiously,” the PMD states, adding that instructions were also issued by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to look into the possibility of commencing academic activities for first year university students.
