Inter-provincial travel restrictions which were extended until the end of the month will be lifted on 1 November considering the current COVID-19 situation in the country.

According to National Operations Centre for the Prevention of the COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) Head Gen. Shavendra Silva, the decision was made when the Special Committee on COVID-19 Control met yesterday.

The President’s Media Division (PMD) stated that intra-province train services will commence on Monday and inter-provincial train services will commence on 1 November. However, during the first phase, only persons with season tickets will be permitted to use train services. In addition to this, extra train compartments will be added to reduce congestion.

“The Special Committee on COVID-19 Control decided to commence the primary sections and grades 11 and 13 in all schools after having discussions with the education and health sectors. Special attention was also paid to the possibility of restarting tuition classes,” the PMD added.

According to the Education Ministry, Grades 1 to 5 of public and State-approved private schools will commence on 25 October. Primary grades of schools with less than 200 students began on 21 October and, as the second phase, primary grades of schools with over 200 students will reopen.
