Intermediary COVID-19 care centre mooted for State sector tourism employees

Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) has sought approval to set up a makeshift intermediary COVID-19 care centre for all State sector tourism employees.

On the recommendation of Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, the plan is to convert either the 52-room Anuradhapura National Holiday Resort or the 42-room Kataragama National Holiday Resort as a treatment centre for tourism sector employees and their family members in the event they contract COVID-19. Both resorts are currently managed by the SLTDA.

SLTDA’s request by Director-General Dhammika Wijayasinghe had been sent last week to Health Services Director General Dr. Asela Gunawardene.

The employees of the SLTDA, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), Sri Lankan Convention Bureau (SLCB), Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM), and the Tourism Ministry will be eligible to use the proposed intermediary care centre.
