In a move to enhance accountability and restore public trust in State institutions, the Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved establishing dedicated investigation units within each Ministry.

The move intends to address the growing number of complaints about public services, which are being reported daily— both nominally and anonymously to the President’s Office, Prime Minister’s Office and other Ministries.

Addressing the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday, Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa asserted the urgent need for impartial and scientific investigations into these complaints to foster positive changes within the public sector.

He noted that the investigation units will be led by senior first-grade officers from island-wide services or experienced first-grade executive officers from the public service. Their mandate will include examining the operations of public institutions under previous administrations, as well as addressing complaints, submissions and other reports regarding the current functioning of public institutions.
