The Government is to call for proposals on a ‘build, operate and transfer’ (BOT) basis, a new port services centre in Bloemendhal area under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative.

The move follows Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) identifying the need to expedite the development of services related to the Port of Colombo in order to increase the competitiveness of the Port and meet the growing demand.

SLPA will establish a port-related service centre with modem facilities in the Bloemendhal area. As the first phase of the program, it is planned to build a large warehouse complex for semi-full containers, full containers, re-export containers from various countries, frozen containers, interstate shipping operations and other port-related services.

The Cabinet this week approved this project as proposed by the Minister of Ports and Shipping and to take necessary steps to call for proposals to select suitable investors for the implementation of the proposed project as a Public Private Partnership under BOT.
