Justice Minister Ali Sabry told Parliament yesterday that there would be a major overhaul in the administration of the country’s justice system with the introduction of more technology, as well as amendments to laws.
Sabry said Sri Lankan courts will function similar to courts in more developed countries, with around 43 courts to have online hearings, online filing, and video and audio-conferencing facilities by December, while all courts will have these facilities by 2023.
“We are also working with 200 legal experts to change the judicial system. We will change the commercial law, criminal and civil law, Muslim marriage law and also general marriage law,” Sabry said, adding that 25 areas in need of reform have been identified.
Sabry said that the House of Justice complex being built at the Hulftsdorp would also have 50 extra court houses.
