Top lawyer of both public and private sector fame Kanchana Ratwatte has been appointed as the Chairman of Bank of Ceylon, the country’s largest financial institution by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa who is also the Minister of Finance.
He is a lawyer by profession and has an LL.B degree from the University of Colombo.
Ratwatte has appeared on behalf of numerous clients including corporate entities in both criminal and civil areas of the law.
He also has extensive experience in the public and private sectors in the fields of commerce and administration.
He has held public sector positions as the Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Standards Institution and the Ceylon Shipping Corporation among other organisations in his career.
He also has extensive experience being a member of the board of directors of several private sector enterprises in the fields of IT, security printing, software development, BPO, Insurance broking and Securities.
He had his primary and secondary education at Trinity College Kandy.
