Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera revealed yesterday that it has been proposed to slash the electricity tariffs at the same percentages of increase in October last year.
”The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) expects to reduce the rates by at least the same rates and percentages it was increased in October 2023,” he announced via ‘X’.
He outlined plans to lower tariffs which saw an 18% increase for domestic and religious institutions, a 12% rise for industries and hotels, and a 24% surge for general purpose and Government establishments.
Wijesekera also noted that the CEB intends to present a proposal to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) for the reduction of electricity tariffs today (22).
The Minister made this announcement following a discussion held on the revised proposal to reduce electricity tariffs held last morning at the Power and Energy Ministry.
“CEB management and tariff department officials briefed on the revised new tariff proposal, cost reduced from capital and operating expenses from the original proposal, cash flow requirements for 2024 and suggestions received and considered from public consultation and stakeholder meetings,” he added.
