Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera yesterday said the main framework of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) reforms will be presented to the Cabinet of Ministers by the end of the month.
Taking to Twitter, the Minister made this announcement following a discussion on the proposals with the members of the CEB reforms committee yesterday morning.
Minister Wijesekera said the committee has met with development agencies, sector experts, and stakeholders, whilst noting that they will meet political parties and the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) next week.
On 5 August, the Minister appointed eight-member committee to provide restructuring proposals with the technical support of various development institutions to restructure the debt-ridden CEB within a month.
The committee comprises veterans from both the public and private sectors. They include; Finance Ministry former Secretary Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga, former Power and Energy Ministry Secretary M.M.C. Ferdinando, CEB former Assistant General Manager Dr. Susantha Perera, BOI former Chairman Thilan Wijesinghe, Attorney General Department former Senior State Counsel Attorney-at-Law Harsha Fernando, Petroleum Development Authority Chairman Saliya Wickramasuriya, Public Enterprise Reforms Commission former Legal Consultant Nihal Jayawardena PC, and Power and Energy Ministry Director Chandana Wijesinghe.
