The Republic of Korea has relaxed the travel alert on Sri Lanka in a welcome move to the tourism industry. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, Sri Lanka’s travel alert has been readjusted from level 2 to level 1 as of 1 July.

“The revised alert, which reflects improved security and health situations, is expected to attract more Korean visitors to Sri Lanka,” said the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Sri Lanka.

In response, Andrews Travels, a leader in the Korean tourism market said it is delighted to hear that the Korean Government has relaxed the travel restrictions on Sri Lanka.

“This will be an encouragement to the tourism industry as Sri Lankan airlines too are planning to introduce a third frequency to Seoul in the winter season. We are also hosting a familiarisation trip this week for leading tour operators in Korea,” Andrew Travels Chairman and Managing Director Mahen Kariyawasan said.

In the past six years, tourist arrivals from Korea saw a record 2,500 in 2020 before declining to below 500 levels in the next two years and picked up to near 1,000 level in 2023.
