LIOC supplies 6,000 MT of fuel to CEB to ease-off acute electricity crisis

In the situation when the nation is facing acute power shortage, Lanka IOC (LIOC) has extended its support in supplying 6,000 metric tons of fuel to CEB for power generation to provide some interim relief in the crisis situation. 

The supplies are being made from LIOC’s Trincomalee terminal by round the clock operation. Large capacity bowsers of CPSTL having 33,000 litres have been specially moved from Colombo and other locations to Trincomalee.

LIOC Managing Director Manoj Gupta said: “We are very much hopeful that our modest contribution in ensuring fuel supplies for electricity generation will go a long way in easing the challenging situation created due to shortage of electricity. LIOC has always been concerned about the wellbeing of people and working with the nation.”

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has been unable to procure enough fuel supply to maintain the daily electricity generation requirement, resulting in to enormous power cuts on a daily basis as high as 12-13 hours per day. These are the longest ever power cuts announced in Sri Lanka. The businesses as well as the daily lives of people at large are adversely affected due to long power outages. Many of the offices are forced to work-from-home to manage the situation.

Under the given circumstances on the request of the Government, Lanka IOC made special arrangements for supply of 6,000 metric tons of fuel to CEB to meet the energy requirements of the country and to ease-off the electricity crisis while ensuring the fuel supplies to their sheds.
