With the onset of winter holidays, the first of several charter flight operations by Lot Polish Airlines, flying out of the Czech Republic, touched down at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) yesterday.
The flight carrying 252 tourists from the Czech Republic touched down at BIA at 6:55 a.m., signalling the start of an exciting seasonal influx.
The inaugural flight was welcomed with a spectacular water salute at BIA and the passengers were disembarked to a warm welcome, with delightful traditional dances and thoughtful gifts courtesy of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), Airport and Aviation Services (Lanka) Ltd., and local travel agencies.
These special charter flights are poised to become a regular sight at Katunayake Airport, ferrying tourists from the Czech Republic, till the conclusion of the winter season in March 2024. The General Sales Agent (GSA) for Lot Polish Airlines in Sri Lanka, is Hayleys Aviation.
The collaboration between Lot Polish Airlines and Sri Lankan authorities marks a significant step in strengthening international ties and boosting the tourism sector, which contributes significantly to the economy.
Tourists are expected to explore a diverse range of attractions, from the sun-kissed beaches along the coast to the historic marvels nestled within the heart of the country. With its rich tapestry of culture, lush landscapes and warm hospitality, Sri Lanka remains an attractive destination for global travellers seeking a holiday from the winter chill.
