Lakdinu De Silva becomes Global Champion of IMechE SOfE 2024

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) annually holds Speak Out for Engineering (SofE) competitions to improve young engineers public speaking and leadership skills. “LAK-DINU”, meaning “Sri Lanka-Wins”, living up to his name won the SOfE Global Finals organised by IMechE held yesterday in Dubai.

Lakdinu De Silva is a mechanical engineering undergraduate from the University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka. He won the SOfE Sri Lanka finals on 2 September 2023 at Colombo and the SOfE Southern Asia Region (SAR) finals, beating India and Bangladesh on 8 June 2024 in Kathmandu, Nepal. Now he has managed to bring the very first SofE Global win to Sri Lanka.

 Seven contestants from seven IMechE regions across the world have participated in this year’s global finals. A cash award of GBP 1,000 and a certificate will be awarded for the global winner. The contestant from the ‘UK and Ireland’ region has secured the runners-up. Let us congratulate Lakdinu for his great achievement and for the glory he brought to the country.
