Lalan Rubber to set up gloves manufacturing plant in Oman

Oman Observer: The Sri Lankan Embassy in the Sultanate of Oman has announced that it has facilitated Lalan Rubbers Ltd., in setting up its re-export facility for medical disposable gloves at Sohar Freezone.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Sultanate of Oman Ameer Ajwad recently visited Sohar Freezone together with Lalan Chief Executive Officer Manjula Mahadanaarachi and officially presented the project proposal to Sohar Freezone Executive Manager Hilal al Adawi with a view to initiate the project. 

Lalan’s representative in the Sultanate of Oman, Damith de Alwis, made a presentation on the details of the project to the free zone authorities.

Senior Commercial Officer of the Freezone Sara al Bahrani also participated during the meeting. The Lalan delegation, led by the Ambassador, also inspected the plot of land allocated for Lalan’s gloves re-exportation plant in Sohar Freezone.

Ambassador Ameer Ajwad stated that Lalan Group’s facility would be dedicated to the re-export of medical disposable gloves imported from Sri Lanka. It will capitalise on market opportunities in the Sultanate of Oman as well as in the region. This is the first-ever Sri Lankan-owned packing plant, ETO facility and laboratory unit under one roof in an Omani free zone. The plant would also produce value-added surgical gloves, as well as industrial gloves, the Ambassador added.

Lalan Group, an 80-year-old Sri Lankan family-owned conglomerate of 52 companies in seven sectors, employs over 7,500 persons and conducts business in over 105 countries. All of its operations are centred around its vertically integrated core business of rubber. The group also manufactures mattresses, pillows, rubber bands, and other products.
