Lawyer sued for professional negligence by SL expat

A Sri Lankan lawyer is being sued for professional negligence by a Sri Lankan expatriate living in the United States of America for failing to register a notarial deed, which was executed by the lawyer, in the appropriate folio at the Land Registry.

He is also suing a purchaser of a property belonging to the plaintiff for illegal ejectment of the plaintiff and his staff from the purchased premises.

The plaintiff, Kosala G. Tarantula, a Financial and Tax Consultant in Washington DC is demanding Rs. 100,000,000 and Rs. 6,000,000 in damages from Attorney at Law B.K. Shaminda Jayasekera and property purchaser Dinuka Jayamal Earnest Fonseka respectively.

Both cases were filed in the Colombo District Court by the plaintiff’s instructing lawyers, and the court issued summons to the defendants, ordering them to appear before the court.
