The Legal Officers Association of the Attorney General’s (AG) Department in a statement yesterday expressed grave concern over what it described as “unprofessional and unethical” conduct by a group of Attorneys-at-Law gathered at the entrance of the new building of AG’s Department on 5 April.
The Association said it was made aware of statements published through electronic, print and social media regarding the Attorney General, the Attorney General’s Department and cases pending before Courts.
“The Association categorically denies and notes with grave concern those baseless and founded allegations,” said the Association’s Secretary Shaminda Wickrema.
“The Association reiterates its grave concern regarding the unprofessional and unethical conduct of the group of Attorneys-at-Law and of the statements published through electronic, print and social media without any basis and without recourse to proper procedure to clarify any matters that were of concern,” it added.
It said that “Legal Officers Association expresses its solidary with the Attorney General and the membership will meet any challenges as members of the Official Bar who have always acted in accordance with the law and the Constitution without any fear or favour in discharging their official duties,” the statement added.
