President Ranil Wickremesinghe
President Ranil Wickremesinghe extended an invitation once again to the Opposition yesterday, urging them to unite with the Government to participate in the nation-building endeavours of the administration.
“Both parties (Government and Opposition) are aware I am right. Then why can’t we work together,” Wickremesinghe asked while addressing Parliament.
The President emphasised that the nation is facing challenging times and urged everyone to come together for the collective effort of rebuilding the country.
“The Opposition and the Government both face the same threat. If there are any alternative plans to navigate this situation, please present them to us. Thus far, no one has done so,” he remarked.
“Given our mutual agreement on these policies, let us join forces in our endeavours and set an example for the country,” he added.
President Wickremesinghe has extended similar invitations in the past only to be rebuffed by the Opposition led by Sajith Premadasa who has called for fresh parliamentary polls instead.
