Local cement firms yesterday announced a Rs. 100 or 3% reduction per 50 kg bag as part of supporting the construction industry.

INSEE Sanstha and INSEE Mahaweli Marine Plus will be priced Rs. 3,100 per 50 kg bag now on. Tokyo Super and Nippon 50 kg cement bags too will be priced at Rs. 3,100.

The reduction comes despite the 2.5% Social Security Levy coming into force and amidst drop in production. As per the Central Bank data in the first eight months, local cement production was down by 19% to 2.5 million tons, whilst imports were down by 35% to one million tons.
