Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) leader Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday expressed confidence in the party’s ability to secure victory in any forthcoming election.
Speaking to the media after an SLPP meeting at the party headquarters, Rajapaksa refuted claims of a split within the party regarding support for President Ranil Wickremesinghe as a Presidential candidate, dismissing them as mere rumours. “I am not aware of any such split. These are mere rumours,” he clarified.
However, Rajapaksa voiced his dissatisfaction with the Government’s trajectory, despite the SLPP holding the majority. “We are not fully satisfied,” he remarked, noting widespread public criticism of the Government. Rajapaksa emphasised the public’s high level of criticism towards the Government and said however the SLPP is prepared to seize power and lead the Government. “We will take the necessary steps at the appropriate time,” he affirmed.
Furthermore, Rajapaksa confidently asserted that the party faces no significant challenges and is poised to emerge victorious in any upcoming election.
