One of Sri Lanka’s iconic and most respected cricketers Roshan Mahanama yesterday decried the move by the CID to question swimming Gold Medallist Julian Bolling over the burning of the private residence of President Ranil Wickremesinghe and non-violent protest by the people in early July.

In a tweet, Mahanama said: “Right for speech and expression of your opinion in a peaceful way is our basic human right.”

He said “in a society where people turn a blind eye for money, power and personal interest, my friend Julian, who won 15 gold medals for Sri Lanka at the South Asian Games between 1984 to 199,  has always been outspoken and stood for what’s right without any political bias, like me”.

“It is sad to see a great human being like Julian who has brought much glory to the country and with an unblemished track record in the society is being questioned while many who need to be questioned remain untouched, at large,” added Mahanama, a former ICC match referee and a key member for the 1996 Cricket World Cup winning team for Sri Lanka.
