  • In a letter to President Sirisena calls for the full list to be released

International Trade and Development Strategies Minister Malik Samarawickrama yesterday denied receiving any funds from Perpetual Treasuries or Perpetual Group owner Arjun Aloysius, or any linked party, in a letter to the President.

In his letter to President Maithripala Sirisena, Samarawickrama also called for the release of the full list of names included in the Bond Commission report detailing people who had allegedly received payments from Aloysius. Samarawickrama also denied that he had received any money even though he had been informed he was mentioned in the list.

“I wish to categorically state that I have not received any funds from the above-mentioned companies or person as stated by me, under oath, while giving evidence before the bond commission. In view of the above, I kindly request you to publish the names of all those who have received funds, if such a list is included in the Bond Commission report or available with the Attorney General’s Department or law enforcement authorities,” he said in the letter.

“I would appreciate if you could consider my request as a matter of national importance,” he added.

Former Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara and Sustainable Development Minister Sarath Fonseka have accepted that they had received funds from Aloysius. A list of 118 names of people who had accepted funds from Aloysius had been included in the Bond Report.
