Chief Prelate of the Malwatte Chapter the Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera expressed the view yesterday that the nation is at risk of complete deterioration unless it is entrusted to a competent group during this pivotal period.

The Mahanayaka Thera made this statement during a meeting with the National People’s Party (NPP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake and former MP K.D. Lalkantha, who paid a visit to the Chief Prelate in Kandy yesterday to discuss the current situation in the country.

The duo also visited the Chief Prelate of the Asgiriya Chapter, the Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thera.

The discussions reportedly focused on the NPP’s stance and views on the current situation prevailing in Sri Lanka.

Addressing the media following the visit, Dissanayake noted that during the discussions with the Mahanayaka Theras, the NPP outlined the party’s agenda to address the current crisis and numerous challenges confronting the nation.

Dissanayake emphasised the need for a national revival program during a period when the country is on the verge of a comprehensive breakdown across all sectors. He mentioned that the party has initiated discussions with religious leaders, subject experts, professionals, industrialists, entrepreneurs, and academics regarding the matter.

He noted that during the discussions with the prelates, it was also emphasised that rebuilding the nation is impossible without such a plan.
