Mangala Wijesinghe new Chairman at EDB

Young corporate leader Mangala Wijesinghe has been appointed the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Export Development Board (EDB) of Sri Lanka.

Wijesinghe replaces well known marketer and management specialist Dr. Kingsley Bernard who served as Chairman and CEO of the apex State organisation responsible for the development and promotion of exports since April 2023. Prior to the new appointment, Wijesinghe served as the Chief Operating Officer of Brown and Company PLC. 



With over 25 years of senior and top management experience across various sectors, including pharmaceuticals, chemicals, consumer and electronics, industrial engineering solutions, and mobile and telecommunications, Wijesinghe is known for his visionary leadership and commitment to operational excellence. 

His new role as Chairman of the EDB presents an exciting opportunity to leverage his wealth of knowledge and expertise to enhance Sri Lanka’s export sector and strengthen the country’s global trade relationships. 

He successfully managed a portfolio of international suppliers with well-known brands across various industries, driving operational efficiency and business growth.

Wijesinghe holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). Additionally, he is a Chartered Professional Manager in Sri Lanka, further reinforcing his credentials in business management and corporate strategy. 

His academic qualifications, combined with extensive industry experience, have equipped him with the expertise to lead organisations towards sustained success.

From 2021 to 2023, Wijesinghe also served as the President of the Veterinary Importers and Manufacturers Association (VIMA), where his leadership played a pivotal role in advancing industry standards. 

He is well known for his ability to turn around loss-making businesses and guide them towards profitability in a short period of time. 

In addition, Wijesinghe is actively engaged with many local and international associations related to export development, further enhancing his influence in the industry.
