Licenses of 400 foreign employment agencies accused of unauthorised activities have been suspended, Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara said.
He pointed out that these employment agencies have sent migrant workers to many countries including the Middle East for employment through tourist visas and they have been banned due to the violation of the conditions imposed by the Foreign Employment Bureau including not providing information about the employment stability of the migrants to the bureau.
After completing the investigations on complaints, the labour licenses of 13 agencies that have been confirmed to have violated the terms of office and labour laws, have been cancelled.
The Minister pointed out that 75 people have been arrested based on complaints received in the first 11 months of this year, and 13 of them are owners of foreign employment agencies.
