Milinda Moragoda tipped to be High Commissioner to India

Former Minister Milinda Moragoda is tipped to be Sri Lanka’s new High Commissioner to India, the Daily FT learns.

His name has been sent to the High Post Committee of Parliament for confirmation.

Moragoda who entered Parliament from the United National Party (UNP), served in several ministerial positions and is also the Founder of The Pathfinder Foundation. 

He was also appointed as a Senior Advisor in 2011 to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa who was then the President.

The post of High Commission in New Delhi has been vacant since January when Austin Fernando, who was appointed to the post in 2018, returned to Sri Lanka.

Niluka Kadurugamuwa has served as Acting High Commission for the past seven months.

New Delhi is one of the most coveted diplomatic postings with Sri Lanka’s first High Commissioner being Sir D.B. Jayatllake followed by several illustrious Lankans.
