The Cabinet of Ministers approved the joint proposal presented by President, Prime Minister and Urban Development and Housing Minister to implement the proposed Western Region Megapolis Master Plan 2048.
It was agreed upon establishing a Ministerial Committee, chaired by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, to provide advice and coordination of facilities for the implementation of the approved plan.
The said plan will be reviewed and the Western Region Megapolis Master Plan 2048 will be developed taking into account the projects indicated in the original master plan and be implemented in priority order.
On 8 May, the Cabinet approved awarding the contract to Singapore’s Surbana Jurong Ltd., to review the Western Region Megapolis Plan prepared by the Urban Development Authority in the year 2015.
