The Ministry of Public Security has taken measures to issue 2,500 foreign passports per day to ease off the passports clogged in the issuing process. Earlier only 1,200 passports were issued per day.
Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala said a separate unit had opened to issue passports to facilitate those who wanted to urgently travel abroad.
He further said that applications submitted to that unit would be directed to a committee and according to its recommendations passports would be issued promptly.
