The Embassy of Switzerland to Sri Lanka and the Maldives has announced the visit and performance of modern Swiss alphorn artist Enrico Lenzin in Colombo and Ahangama.

Known for his unique blend of traditional alpine sounds and modern electronic music, Enrico will captivate audiences with a mesmerising fusion of cultural heritage and contemporary creativity.

A performance will be held at the boundary-pushing arts and entertainment venue TRAX, Ahangama on Friday 8 November from 7 p.m. and this event is free of charge and open to everyone on a first come first served basis.

This is a rare opportunity for music lovers to experience the magic of the alphorn in a modern context, in the sought-after surf town of Ahangama.

The main event will take place at the Official Swiss Residence in Colombo on Tuesday 12 November, by invitation only, where guests will witness Enrico’s full repertoire in an intimate setting.

In addition to these performances, Enrico will also conduct a workshop at the University of the Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA), Colombo on Monday 11 November from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The workshop is for the students of VAPA with a music background and anyone interested in learning about the fascinating history and techniques behind the alphorn, while also gaining insights into the art of live looping and the fusion of traditional and modern music.

Enrico Lenzin is an entertaining and innovative Swiss musician who brings the traditional sounds of the alphorn into the modern era. With a passion for preserving the heritage of the Alps, he seamlessly blends traditional instrumental music with contemporary electronic sounds, incorporating live looping to create a rich, layered experience.

Lenzin is on a mission to share the beauty and versatility of the alphorn with audiences worldwide. His performances pay homage to the wooden instruments once used by mountain dwellers in Switzerland, Austria, and Bavaria, while introducing the instrument to new, younger generations. Widely regarded as one of the most creative and versatile rhythm artists in Switzerland, Lenzin’s performances are both engaging and deeply rooted in tradition.
