As part of the Government's commitment to developing a caring and an inclusive society, as proposed in 2019 Budget, the Ministry of Finance has decided to increase the monthly allowance granted by the Government to disabled persons by Rs. 2,000.
This increase will be effective from 1 July, and the monthly allowance for a disabled person will be increased up to Rs. 5,000, the Ministry said in a statement.
The allowance of Rs. 3,000 had been paid to 30,000 individuals registered with the Ministry of Social Empowerment, and in addition, 40,000 people are registered in order to obtain the allowance.
Accordingly the Government stated that all 72,000 disabled persons who have registered thus far will be eligible to receive the Rs. 5,000 allowance from next month.
According to the 2019 Budget, the Ministry has allocated Rs. 4.35 billion for the allowance increment this year. The Treasury Tuesday has issued the circular permitting these payments to the Ministry of Primary Industries and Social Empowerment.
