The National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka, in a statement yesterday expressed the confidence of export fraternity of the country in the strong mandate by the people on the recently-concluded election for a pro-growth Government.
NCE congratulated the new Government led by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on receiving a resounding directive at the recent election and expressed its fullest support for the new Government in the development of a strong and pro-growth policy framework by the new administration which will create a conducive environment for socio-economic development.
The chamber said it appreciated that certain industries had been considered favorably under the new regime which would support the development of the country.
Being an export chamber, it said it would collate concerns by its member exporters and submit relevant proposals to line ministries in order to facilitate the members to increase their exports.
The general membership of NCE consists exporter companies of almost all product and service sectors from SMEs to some of the large export houses in the country. It has also established a separate arm for potential exporters with the view of assisting small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) who are yet to explore the international markets.
The special setting for women entrepreneurs has been set up in 2018 to encourage and motivate women owned/women led businesses with the intention of contributing to the national economy through empowerment of women entrepreneurs and exporters. The chamber also support its members by sharing knowledge and expertise of trade by conducting seminars and workshops with the support of professional of various fields.
The chamber played a pivotal role together with other stakeholders during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown in supporting the national endeavour to navigate through the pandemic by facilitating people and corporates through establishment of various mechanisms. In this regard, NCE joined hands with two help desks with Ernst & Young and the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA) in supporting the SME sector businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
NCE also mentioned that the mandate given to the new Government by the Sri Lankan electorate would be the gateway for much-needed policy reforms to be in place in order to drive an accelerated and sustainable socio-economic and export friendly development program for Sri Lanka.
Further elaborating, the chamber stated that it strongly believed the exporters in Sri Lanka should play a pivotal role with the support of the Government to reach the height of exports for wealth generation and foreign exchange income and NCE is looking forward to working in partnership with the relevant ministries, other Government agencies and market intermediaries to actively support the Government’s vision of development.
It said it was confident that the new Government under the able leadership of Premier Mahinda Rajapaksa would steer the country towards revival of the economy, which had taken an unprecedented blow largely due to the outbreak of the deadly pandemic this year.
In conclusion, the chamber stated it wished to place on record the unwavering commitment and resilience of exporters of this country and that it would extend its fullest cooperation to the new Government on the steadfast belief that the stable Government with a clear vision of ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’ led by the President would steer the country towards economic prosperity.
