National People’s Power (NPP) MP Dr. Harini Amarasuriya yesterday said the ever-increasing cost of living is at an unbearable level and it has impacted all classes of the community.

“A family of four requires a monthly income of Rs. 64,000 to Rs. 70,000 to meet their basic needs, given the skyrocketing cost of living,” MP Amarasuriya told the Parliament. She also pointed out that the figure does not include meat, eggs, or milk.

MP Amarasuriya noted that at present, the poverty-stricken, unemployed, and employed are equally battered by the ever-increasing cost of living and multiple crises. She also said around 60% to 65% of the total population does not generate such an income, including those among the working class.
