The National Sales Average (NSA) for tea in 2023 has declined across all elevations in comparison to last year, according to Forbes and Walker Tea Brokers.
The NSA for High Grown was down by Rs. 20.6 to Rs. 1,072.48; Medium Grown was down by Rs. 18.47 to Rs. 1,012.35 and Low Grown had plunged by Rs. 87.71 to Rs. 1,252.15. Total was down by Rs. 62.95 to Rs. 1,171.29.
In Dollar terms, the decline ranged from a low of 10 cents to a high of 33 cents whilst the total was down by 25 cents.
The annual dip comes despite a gain in December as against November though year on year the performance was negative.
Forbes said the NSA in December was Rs. 1,186.41 (or $ 3.64) recording an increase of Rs. 69.76 and $ 0.22 against November 2023 average of Rs. 1,116.65 ($ 3.42).
In comparison to the December 2022 average of Rs. 1,454.24 ($ 4), latest performance shows a decrease of Rs. 267.83 and $ 0.35 YOY.
High Grown average for December 2023 recorded an increase of Rs. 67.09 and $ 0.21 month on month, whilst it declined Rs. 287.81 and $ 0.45 year on year.
The Medium Grown average for the month recorded a gain of Rs. 35.05 and $ 0.12 from November whilst in comparison to the corresponding month last year shows a decrease of Rs. 218.83 and $ 0.27 YOY.
Low Grown average for the month recorded a positive variance of Rs. 87.18 and $ 0.28 month on month, whilst a decrease of Rs. 256.19 and $ 0.29 is recorded YOY.
