The Cabinet of Ministers gave the green light to establish a National Evaluation Monitoring Committee to enhance governance and transparency.

The Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Economic Stability and National Policies chairs the committee.

The move is a significant step towards fostering a robust evaluation policy within the State sector, with the Department of Project Management and Supervision at the General Treasury already initiating preliminary efforts for the policy’s implementation, scheduled to commence in the year 2024.

The committee is tasked with conducting evaluations and submitting comprehensive information and recommendations to the Cabinet of Ministers.

“The committee will annually present recommendations for evaluations conducted to both the Cabinet of Ministers and the Parliament, ensuring accountability and transparency in the State’s evaluation procedures,” the Cabinet Co-Spokesman and Minister Bandula Gunawardena said yesterday.

The proposal to this effect submitted by President Ranil Wickremesinghe was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers at its meeting on Tuesday.
