Power and Energy Ministry yesterday said the National Fuel Pass QR system will be rolled out from today countrywide, noting that it has enabled registration of vehicles with the revenue license.
Issuing a 12-point statement yesterday, the Ministry noted that the last digit of the vehicle’s license plate system, tokens and other systems that were in place will be “invalid’’ from today, emphasising only the QR system fuel quota will be applied hereafter.
The Ministry also said that fuel distribution will be prioritised for fuel stations that have adopted the QR system. The system will be monitored to check the number of users of QR from the stocks distributed to fuel stations.
“Motorists unable to register with a chassis number will be able to register with the Revenue License number from today,” the Ministry added.
Power and Energy Ministry called on all three-wheels to register with respective Police stations to nominate the closest fuel station to them, whilst requesting all users of generators, garden equipment, machinery, and other equipment which require fuel to register at the respective Divisional Secretariats with the type of fuel, weekly requirement and the choice of fuel station.
It also stated that businesses with multiple vehicles can register all the automobiles with their Business Registration Number.
The Ministry noted public transportation will be given a priority, adding that the fuel quota for buses will be allocated at CTB depots with the quota decided by the route permit and the number of kilometres in service.
“CTB depots will also facilitate the diesel fuel requirements of school service vehicles, office transport vehicles, industries, tourism sector, ambulances and other essential services verified by the authorities. Ambulances will be given priority at all fuel stations, where the requested amount will be refuelled for their vehicles,” the statement noted.
It also said the Police Department will be given an allocated quota from selected fuel stations in each Police division and it will be communicated accordingly.
The Power and Energy Ministry said the public can send photos or video evidence via WhatsApp, on illegal activities of fuel stocking or sales to 0742123123. It also said the QR access will be temporarily blocked for repeated offenders and legal actions will be taken accordingly.
The Ministry also called on the public not to overcrowd the fuel stations today itself, noting the whole week is available to get the allocated quota from fuel stations countrywide.
Separately, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said the highest number of fuel stations using the QR system in a single day was reported on Saturday, where 746 filling stations adopted the software, beating Friday’s record.
“Total of 1,060 fuel stations were added to the system at 8.30 p.m. on Saturday. Over 1.1 million transactions were conducted over QR,” Minister opined via Twitter yesterday.
