National Law Conference 2023 kicks off tomorrow

  • Two-day event to share key insights to “Navigating through Crisis – The Law’s Role”

The National Law Conference 2023, the most looked forward to and prestigious event of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka titled “Navigating through Crisis – The Law’s Role” is set to take place on the 12 and 13 March at the Cinnamon Grand hotel in Colombo.

The Chief Guest will be Chief Justice of Sri Lanka Jayantha Jayasuriya PC and the Guest of Honour will be US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung. Bar Association President Saliya Pieris PC and the Association’s Secretary Isuru Balapatabendi will grace the occasion. 

The conference is being chaired by National Law Conference 2023 Chairman Attorney-at-Law Janaprith Fernando. The conference will be divided into several plenary sessions, each of which will focus on a specific aspect of the law’s role in navigating through crisis. 

Renowned experts in the legal profession and other professions both from the public and private sector have been invited to share their knowledge and expertise at the sessions.

A brief overview of the sessions are as follows:

Day 1 – Sunday 12.03.2023

Plenary 1 – The crisis, the legal framework and its role in economic recovery

Plenary 2 – Investment in times of crisis, the legal framework and new developments and opportunities

Plenary 3 - Addressing violence and social exclusion in times of crisis

 

Day 2 – Monday 13.03.2023

Plenary 1 – Taxation in the context of recent reforms

Plenary 2 – New developments in Civil Law and the Notarial Practice

Parallel Session 1 on

Recent Developments and amendments in Employment Law and challenges in the face of crisis times and

Criminal Law – IT related offences and its forensic investigation

Parallel Session 2 on

Artificial Intelligence (AI): Is Sri Lanka ready to implement AI in delivering services in the Public Sector?

Cyber Security Bill: Is the lack of digitisation an impediment to an efficient economic environment?

Challenges and reforms in the digital sphere in Sri Lanka and alternate dispute resolution in the context of the present economic situation

 

The conference will also feature other panel discussions, Q&A sessions, networking opportunities and so much more, providing attendees with the opportunity to engage with experts and discuss the topics covered in more detail.
