Plantations Minister Navin Dissanayake yesterday called for the United National Party (UNP) to work together to achieve tangible change for the masses.

Speaking after accepting his new position as the National Organiser of the UNP, Dissanayake noted that much remained to be done to develop Sri Lanka and called for the support of the public and party members. He also encouraged the new appointees to work together for the development of the party.

“We have to gather the party to become a vibrant force which will affect real change. That is the best way to show the people that real change has taken place with the UNP reforms. We have to give young leaders a chance to shine and prove themselves. When people have stronger faith in the party they will increase their support because they will understand we are genuinely dedicated to their welfare,” he said.

Dissanayake also recalled the part his father played in rebuilding the UNP after 1970, working from the frontlines to reconnect the party with the people. He pledged to follow in the grand traditions of the UNP as well as gain inspiration from the work done by Dissanayake senior.
