New SEC Chairman

The Ministry of Finance has appointed Deputy Secretary Treasury A. R. Desapriya to head the Securities and Exchange Commission, so that as requested by current Chairman Ranel Wijesinha, a smooth transition of activities will take place without the typical gap that was experienced by the SEC secretariats in the past.

Desapriya has 30 years of work experience in the public sector. He is now a special grade officer of Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS).

During the period, he worked in different areas of the public sector activities and held various positions of the General Treasury in the capacity of Director and Additional Director General. He held the post of Additional Secretary of Ministry of Skills Development and Vocational Training and initiated many reforms in the Technical and Vocational Education Training Sector (TVET) in Sri Lanka.

Before he assumed the duties of his current position as Deputy Secretary to the Treasury, he worked as Director General of National Budget Department. He is also serving as a member on the Board of the Sri Lanka Insurance Board and a Director to the Board of Regional Development Bank. 

Desapriya has a BSc Degree in Public Administration from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka and MBA Degree from University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.
