Crime divisions similar to Colombo Crime Division will be established in all provinces, soon, to strengthen investigation capacities of the Sri Lanka Police in order to bring down crime rate in the country.
Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala told the Daily FT that each of the newly set up crime divisions will directly come under the supervision of senior DIGs in the respective provinces.
He said a Cabinet paper would be presented at the next Cabinet meeting scheduled to be held on 20 January and the main objective of establishing these crime divisions was to bring down crime rates, which were high in some of the provinces.
“Public can lodge their complaints, which are overlooked by their area police stations, to these specially set up crime divisions in their respective provinces,” he said adding that crime divisions will be set up in Kurunegala covering the Wayamba Province and in Anuradhapura covering the North Central Province.
