New eviction law coming

The Government is planning to introduce a new law to expedite eviction and rent cases.

The Cabinet of Ministers at its meeting on Monday approved a proposal by Justice Minister Ali Sabry to advise the Legal Draftsman to prepare a Draft Bill in this connection. 

The Government claimed that the move was after considering issues facing the development and easier rental of apartments, the re-possession of those given on lease basis, etc.

It said a preliminary Draft Bill had been prepared by the Legal Consultative Committee on House Rent appointed by the Justice Minister. 

“The proposed new law will reduce delays in legal procedures with regard to Court cases on general rent and eviction and give redress to lessors under a systematic procedure within a short period of time,” the Government added.
